“Songs inspired by my favorite films from the visionary après-garde filmmaker James O. Incandenza.”
Just like the material its concept spawned from, “Tennis, Everyone?” posits something dense, wrapping around itself in many twists and turns both conceptually and in prose. Based loosely on a theoretical tribute to part of the filmography of the fictional author James O. Incandenza from the behemoth of a literary work “Infinite Jest”, Hakita mixes many of his styles into one singular work, peppering in interesting interludes to further flavor an album which pushes itself to a hundred at almost all other times.
Influences from breakcore, drill n bass, and touches of industrially-flavored metal peer through into something that both showcases approaches to his work that have been made previously but further honed for this piece, or integrated in entirely new ways, such as the uses of radio signals, drone, and elevator muzak in the ‘found drama’ duology that offer interesting, stimulating respites for the listener.
