Presented as a collection of eclectic and richly varied, yet undeniably approachable electronica, June LaLonde’s ‘Floating Rooms’ visits many different places on the sonic scale throughout its runtime. From dancier tunes, to tracks closely resembling synth pop, to more leftfield experimentations of the texture of her instruments, the listener reaps both the benefits of a fully realized album and the breadth of a compilation from what is presented.
Tracks like “Grey Eminence” and “Petrichor” stand as highlights by bringing vocals to the table in sparse moments, which are done excellently and lead into the synth pop sounds tucked in between more instrumental tracks, which blend in wonderfully due to careful placement and precise execution, with the more fervently percussive sounds present in “Petrichor” complimenting the loudness of “Minus” coming directly before it.
These meticulous placements and arrangements also come into play looking at the start and close, with a much more gradually progressive track in “Low Poly Fallow” being contrasted with a much more instant burst of energy in “Milk Eye”. Anyone with a taste for synth pop or EDM will easily find their home in here.
