Enraptured by artists such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hakita moved forward with his many talents in other areas of music to create something complex with his skills. Using techniques both new and old, he crafted something truly entrancing with the release of “Satan’s Tango”, a post-rock album influenced by the legendary longform film Satantango.
Just as dense and masterful as the work after which it is named, his emphasis on slow, droning sections to give way to the more punctuative moments which pierce through waves of static, both literal and figurative. The latter finds itself created by shifting, near-unsure notes produced by strings in the background.
“Satan’s Tango” is classy, yet tinged with a crudeness to the texture of its sound. Reserved, yet bombastic in moments that seem to rip a hole of silence before and after their appearance. It is one of Hakita’s more provocative works which challenges a deep listen and a thorough respect for the art form of the genres in which it comes from.
Inspired by the Bela Tarr film Sátántangó and the Godspeed You! Black Emperor album F♯ A♯ ∞. Originally started in early 2019 but abandoned, now revisited, revised and finished.
Consists of 10 scenes divided into 3 parts. For a first time listener, it is highly recommended the piece be listened to in its entirety as one complete work.
